How to price a new lawn
A lawn quote is turf, topsoil, ground preparation and laying. Measure the area, add a small allowance for cutting to shape, and price the soil from the depth you need to spread.
Turf and topsoil
Turf is sold by area, so allow a few per cent extra for trimming around edges and curves. Topsoil is sold by volume, found by multiplying the area by the depth, so 50 mm over 60 square metres is 3 cubic metres.
Preparation is most of the work
Clearing, levelling, raking and firming the ground take longer than laying the turf. If an old lawn needs stripping first, the calculator adds the digging time and the cost of taking the spoil away.
Laying and aftercare
Turf is best laid soon after delivery and watered well in the first weeks. Say so in your quote, because poor aftercare is the commonest reason a new lawn fails.
