How to price a tiling job

Tiling quotes come from the area, the tile size and how long the work takes. Smaller tiles mean more joints, more cutting and slower progress, and large-format tiles need a flatter surface.

How many tiles do I need?

Divide the area by the area of one tile including its grout joint, then add an allowance for cuts and breakages. Ten per cent is common, and diagonal or patterned layouts need more.

Adhesive and grout

Adhesive coverage depends on the tile size and the thickness of the bed, and the figures on the bag are the best guide. The default coverage in the advanced settings is only a starting point, so replace it with the numbers for your product.

Preparation takes time

Priming, levelling, waterproofing in wet areas and cleaning up can take a large share of the job. The calculator includes a preparation time, which you can change.
