Flooring cost calculator

Enter the room size and your prices to see how many packs of flooring to buy, the underlay, the hours and a suggested quote.

How to price a flooring job

Start with the floor area, then add an allowance for cuts and offcuts. Flooring is sold in packs, so the calculator rounds up to whole packs and prices what you actually have to buy.

How much waste should I allow?

Around 10 per cent suits most rooms. Allow more for diagonal laying, patterned floors, or rooms with lots of alcoves, pipes and door frames.

Underlay, trims and preparation

Laminate and engineered boards usually need an underlay, and many need an expansion gap around the edges, so follow the manufacturer's instructions. Level, dry subfloors matter, because fixing a poor base later costs far more than the time it takes to check. Thresholds, trims and adhesive are easy to forget when quoting.

What is not included

Moving furniture, levelling compound, trimming doors and skirting changes are not in the figures. Add them as sundries or as extra hours.
